The head of Colombia's gaming authority, Juan Hidalgo, is committed to excluding unlicensed operators from its newly-regulated online gambling market. In a Finance Ministry briefing this week, he announced a number of measures to achieve his goal.

R

egulator Coljuegos has already revealed a blacklist of illegal operators, and has begun blocking online gambling sites which do not hold a local license. However, it admits that it has experienced some technical difficulties in that regard.

Hidalgo said that a second option – disrupting financial transactions between Colombian online players and illegal online gambling operators – is also planned, and that Coljuegos has partnered with the nation's financial sector to find an effective way of implementing this tactic.

Coljuegos has reported a 27% y-o-y increase in payments to the national health fund at USD 170M.
