hat was your experience of this year’s Peru Gaming Show?
We were very much satisfied and so we informed the organizers. PGS grows and thrives year after year on the basis of a mature market like Peru. Every leading international manufacturer was present, and all local operators attended the exhibit. Likewise, each year we receive more and more international operators, who find here an excellent display showcasing the latest products launched and the main regional suppliers.
We hope that next PGS continues in the same vein with its successful series of conferences, a great turnout and a joyful atmosphere. In addition to the spirit that is typical of this show, the organizers always strive to offer festive details which liven up the experience of our visitors each year.
The main topic was the regulation of online sports bets. How important is this business for IGT and how are you preparing to access this market once it has been regulated?
The sports bets line is a business that IGT has been conducting for many years at global level. In the specific case of Peru, we do not have a sports betting presence here, but if it were to be approved, IGT has a model which has been very successful, especially in Europe and the United States.
In light of your experience in other markets, what model of regulation is most convenient for this gaming segment?
Although it is true that there exist regulations that follow international standards which act as key pillars for the operation of this business, each country tends to develop its own profile. It is each regulator’s responsibility to try and reflect the local idiosyncrasy in the norms so that operators may carry out their tasks and comply with the appropriate requirements.
IGT does not participate in any gaming jurisdiction or modality until there is firm regulation in place. Therefore, I cannot give an opinion about what model is more appropriate here. What I do believe is that the great expertise of the Peruvian regulating agency will make it possible for this business to establish properly and grow, just as it happened with land-based gaming. The initiative is extremely positive. Over the last two years, this sector has grown rapidly and many operators have arrived in the country.
Could you comment on the company event that IGT is preparing to hold in Bogotá on 3 August?
The series of activities we have scheduled for this year started with FADJA and continued with our showrooms in Panama, Peru and Chile, and have brought us here at the Peru Gaming Show. In August, we will return to Colombia to hold a company event. Being close to the operators and potential clients is part of IGT’s strategy and policy. We also aim to make our own contribution with exhibits featuring international specialists who will help develop management in each country. It has all been a great success. We have had excellent results and we will continue holding these events because they are part of our identity.
