Although the state Senate passed the project last week, local lawmakers explained that there was still some opposition and the bill probably won't be discussed before the legislative scheduled end.

&

ldquo; There was some opposition; we’ll pick it up next year more than likely,” said bill sponsor Assemblyman Gary Pretlow (D-Westchester County), the New York Daily News reported.

Looking to address concerns about the impact allowing online poker would have on the state’s casinos, the bill was amended to ensure they got a share of the profits by having them run out of the established casinos and racetrack virtual casinos.

The key aspects of S 3898 bill are in line with the current online gaming legislations in other states:

  • Players must be at least 21 years of age and within New York’s borders.
  • It would allow New York to enter into interstate agreements with other states.
  • The bill tasks the state gaming commission with crafting regulations and oversight.
  • It authorizes operators to contract with online gambling companies and use their online gaming software.
