Could Michigan get online gambling going this year, well according to its sponsor Senator Mike Kowall it is simple, yes. SB 889 is special as it firstly could be the entry of another state that has seen the US stall on internet gambling expansion over the last three years following Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey back in 2013.

M

any had hoped that more states would be online now offering interstate compacts, however that has not been the case but with the bill in Michigan it has already exciting possibilities as it allows should it pass for gamblers outside the state and indeed outside the country to place bets online.

This would allow immediately for state compacts and international players to join, but the bill has to go through a couple of technical amendments. After that there will be another hearing, in all likelihood within the next few weeks. Then the bill will be passed to the State Senate floor and from there to the House for a final vote.

However the speed of the bill could be held up as in Michigan constitution for any gambling expansion to take place there needs to be a public vote, experts believe that the public in all likely hood would approve online gambling, but it’s the time that vote would take to organize which could hamper a 2016 target.
