Casino Lac-Leamy celebrated its 20th anniversary and its 60 million visitors that it had since it opened on March 24, 1996.

M

ore than one million visitors come from outside Quebec to visit the Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau every year.

This year the casino drew more than 20,000 people making for one of their biggest crowds ever.

Over the past 20 years, the casino has brought in $4.7 billion in revenue and has seen some great highlights from their events to their winners.

Now the operators say their biggest concern is keeping things fresh because the casino’s biggest event every year is always New Year’s Eve.

This year the casino drew more than 20,000 people making for one of their biggest crowds ever.

“It was the musical ambience that was special in every area of the casino,” said Marie-Claude Rivet, spokesperson for the casino.

“There were DJs, there were bands, there were kabukis and multimedia was a big part of all of it. Then of course there’s always the countdown and it’s a great place to be for that moment.”

During the 2014-2015 fiscal year, the last complete year for statistics, it brought in $228.1 million. For the first three quarters of this fiscal year, the casino has made $180.4 million, up 3.9 per cent compared to the same time period last fiscal year.

“We have done a lot with the entertainment offerings of our establishment,” said Marie-Claude Rivet, spokesperson for the Casino du Lac-Leamy. “We have a lot of activities and initiatives to make sure that when our customers come in they have fun and they can be entertained. The overall entertainment offer has gotten a lot better, it’s been a real boost for us.”
When the casino opened 20 years ago, there were only 14 other gaming establishments within an 800-kilometre radius. Today there are more than 80.

The anniversary celebrations kicked off Thursday afternoon and Easter weekend activities including a dice-rolling contest with a chance to win $1 million and a bartending “flair show” (think Tom Cruise in Cocktails) on Friday.

“With close to 2.7 million visitors every year, the casino is a major tourist attraction in the Outaouais and National Capital region with its unique entertainment offerings,” said Alain Miroux general manager of the casino. “We are extremely proud of our 1,400 dedicated employees, 300 of whom have been with us since the casino opened.”
