Betcade announced the appointment of Paul Barclay, former Global VP at WorldPay and Skrill, to its expanding executive team and the opening of its London office.

Paul Barclay joins the business as General Manager of Betcade Europe to lead payments and operations for the company in addition to heading up Betcade’s new London office.

Barclay was Global VP at WorldPay (RBS) for 15 years, where he was instrumental in initiating and developing its Global Regulated Sectors.

He brings a wealth of experience in both the payments and gambling sectors, coming to Betcade from payments service provider Skrill after the company’s successful sale to Optimal Payments (Paysafe PLC), where he was Global VP for the business from 2013.

Previously, Barclay was Global VP at WorldPay (RBS) for 15 years, where he was instrumental in initiating and developing its Global Regulated Sectors. Additionally, he steered WorldPay’s divestment from RBS to Advert & Bain in 2010 and has prior to that headed up sales and account management at TrustMarque (Payment Trust). His extensive payments background is further enhanced by 14 years spent at Barclaycard and Barclays Bank.

On his new appointment, Paul Barclay said “I started working with online payments when this thing called the internet came along. No one really new what they were doing and we had to build out the businesses by trial and error. 20 years on, the boundaries and possibilities of mobile/internet payment are continually changing and evolving. Why? Because of the consumer. I wanted to join Betcade because they are delivering a solution, driven by consumer demand.”

Betcade CEO, David Chang, said “The General Manager in London is a cornerstone for this company’s ambitions. I believe it’s rare to find someone of Paul’s knowledge and time spent in the industry that still thinks creatively about solutions and looks at issues from different perspectives. He has spent a lot of energy challenging our assumptions and I think it should signal to the industry that what he discovered was attractive enough to want to be a part of. We welcome Paul’s enthusiasm to the team which helps us as a startup to define the right culture and tone for the company.”
