Wynn Interactive has withdrawn its application for an online gaming license in New Jersey, a move that was approved by state regulators earlier this month.

W

ynn Interactive took preliminary steps in July 2013 to enter New Jersey’s Internet gambling market — but later warned it might still change its mind about the whole thing. Steve Wynn said later that Internet gambling “is not a good entrepreneurial opportunity.”

The company would have partnered with Caesars Interactive to offer Internet gambling in New Jersey.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal also reported last year that a company spokesman said its online gambling operations were "on hold."

A lawyer for Wynn Interactive sent a letter dated September 2 to the state Division of Gaming Enforcement saying that "at this time, Wynn does not wish to proceed with its application. Therefore, kindly accept this correspondence as a formal request to withdraw such application." The division's director approved the request soon after.

Wynn Resorts did not immediately return a request for comment on Tuesday.

Wynn Resorts CEO Steve Wynn owned an Atlantic City casino in the 1980s. The former Golden Nugget, which was most recently called Atlantic Club, closed last year along with three other casinos.
