The tribe that owns the Gun Lake Casino has stop payments to the State of Michigan over a dispute about internet lottery sales.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, MEDC, receives about $60 million per year from the state’s casinos, and is preparing for cuts, due to lost revenue from the casino and from the state.

According to the MEDC, the tribe is in a dispute with the state over terms of their compact.  The June 1 payment was the first not made by the tribe.  The budget impact on the MEDC is about $7 million annually.  It is not known when the dispute will be resolved.

The tribe says that the state is offering internet lottery sales in the tribe’s market area which is a violation of the compact with the state.
