The Spanish regulator DGOA has released statistics for 2014, showing that the number of Spanish punters playing on Spain-licensed sites has increased by 1.7 million; from 2.2 million to 3.9 million at the end of 2014.

51.7 percent of active players were new sign-ups, with 87 percent of them males, predominantly in the 18 to 45 year demographic.

The regulator claims that the average player lifetime is around 3.27 months, suggesting that more attention needs to be paid to retaining players who have signed up.

Although punters were found to use more than one category of betting, creating overlaps, sports wagering and online poker tournament facilities were listed as most used by online players, with 60.4 percent opting for sports betting and 44.8 percent active in poker. 20.6 percent said they were also interested in casino table game action, and almost 8 percent favoured online bingo.

Average spend per player per year was calculated at Euro 7,769, and the average RTP from all games was 95.7 percent.
