(Macau).- Macau suffered a drop in revenues for the month by 3.7 percent to USD 3.4 billion, the first decline in revenues since June 2009. It is expected that July will also feel a slowdown in revenues in Macau for the same reasons: VIP players are concentrated on the Brazil World Cup.

The world’s largest gambling hub was predicted to fall by 4% for the month, so was still ahead of analyst’s predictions, with most of the decline put down to VIP players who concentrated more on the World Cup in Brazil than gambling in Macau.

Almost 60% of all revenues in Macau are from high rollers and when the numbers decline in that area, Macau feels the resulting slowdown in growth. Another reason for which VIP gamblers have stayed away at present is the anti-corruption campaign currently going on in China, with many wealthy Chinese deciding to lay low while the investigations are going on.
