HR: The ability to choose between “the best available” and “the best for the job”

As per usual the gaming industry is in a state of constant flux. While Europe awaits the emergence of new online gaming markets, such as Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands, established online operators are looking to the US -where New Jersey and Delaware are seen as pioneer states- and Latin America -where this year Brazil, for example, will celebrate its first ever a conference on gambling-. Likewise, other activities such as social and mobile based games continue increasing their presence and global coverage.


echnology companies linked  to the sector are also seein significant growth due to the rising  demand of  of operators for introducing  social gaming in  their business.

On the other hand,  many companies  continue  establishing operations in Asia due to strict regulations in Europe, on top of an already mature market there, which  also creates an opportunity for B2B companies to diversify their activity and cut  costs With regard to Latin America, many traditional casino operators are studying the  the possibility  of launching  online businesses. Considering that real money online gaming (excluding lottery and skill-based games) already generates around us$ 30 billion in gross profit at an international level, with Europe and the UK holding 54% of the market, the online channel remains  a very attractive option.  Operators wishing to start activities in Latin America  will likely have to seek local partners and set up joint ventures, because most of the regulations planned shortly for  Chile, Peru, Mexico and Colombia will be aplicable to  to existing land-based licenses.

Whenever  companies invest to drive  international expansion, they face the challenge of  hiring  the appropriate people for their respective  teams, in order to assure  future success. It is often forgotten that every region is different and requires and so it requires to  adaptation of the product, marketing and payment methods, among other things . For that reason  finding the right profesional can be a challenge.

In this respect, our activity is all the more important given that  companies’  operations  are usually hindered  by  difficulties in finding  appropriate professionals in a timely fashion . At times the challenge may be pinpointing staff for fast developing activities with requisite local level experience; other times it may be that the search for  professionals requires a more global focus and companies lack resources or time. Rounding out Aruze Gaming’s booth are its ever popular G-STATION products. It  will also display its award-winning Lucky Big Wheel and Shoot to Win Craps. The Lucky Big Wheel will be shown in a ten-station configuration but it can have up to 50 stations linked to the Luck Big Wheel.

A better idea to  recruit talented products and operations related experts   with foreign country experience, but who can also  bring business  expertise and may prove  productive on a short term basis  – and, as well as this,  appoint  local marketing specialists who can complement the knowledge on potential customers and the current demand. In terms of defining the  strategy, the use of  external consultants   skilled in opening new markets may be a wise  first step. As well as setting up collaboration agreements with  trusted partners.

At the same time, the current state of the sector  forces companies to  continuously revise their HR policies in order to adapt to a more dynamic and competitive as well as global environment. Frequent issues to be faced include : whether or not to bring in incorporating expatriates, sponsoring visas, defining relocation plans, the possibility of remote working, integration of different corporate languages, the eligibility of recruiting professionals from other sectors, pros and cons of incorporating professionals from competitors  and crossing expertise among the different channels on the sector (online, landbased, B2B, retail, mobile, social media...).

In short, there are  myriad scenarios  where we have a critical role to play in guiding companies through an   objective decision-making proccess and, in this way, contributing to their  solid and long-term development . Meanwhile, we face the challenge of “educating” companies on the difference between “the best available” and “the best for the job”.
