To cater for a wider spectrum of customers

Macau: SJM bets on non-gaming for Cotai project

(Macau).- SJM Holdings’ new casino resort in Cotai will mainly focus on non-gaming facilities, including low-cost hotels and a performance venue, chief executive officer Ambrose So Shu Fai said this week. Mr So said non-gaming facilities would occupy 80 percent to 90 percent of the us$ 2.5 billion development, our sister publication Business Daily reports.

H

e said the company is willing to include more affordable accommodation in the project to cater for a wider spectrum of customers. These budget hotels would have about 2,000 rooms. SJM announced last month that the resort would have 700 gaming tables and 1,000 slot machines, depending on government approval.

Meanwhile, Mr So also said he does not fear the impact of the new slot parlours rules, which will oblige the gaming operator to either close or relocate two of its three slot parlours. But he said the impact on SJM Holdings’ revenue would be minimal, as the operator mostly focuses on casino gambling.
