Revenues rose by 23 % year-on-year on a like-for-like basis

Online and mobile growth for Rank

(UK).- British gambling giant Rank Group has released its interim financial results for the previous 42 weeks showing a 3% year-on-year increase in like-for-like revenues aided by ‘strong growth’ from its online and mobile gaming operations.


aidenhead-based Rank is the firm behind virtual sportsbook alongside bingo domain and the bricks-and-mortar Grosvenor Casinos chain and revealed that revenues for its Rank Interactive subsidiary rose by 23 % year-on-year on a like-for-like basis. Rank declared that mobile gaming now accounts for six percent of revenues for its Rank Interactive business, which is nearly treble the figure for the same period twelve months ago. “There was strong growth from online and mobile gaming but continued weakness from our operations in Spain,” read a statement from Rank. “Grosvenor Casinos sustained growth in customer visits but a lower win margin in its London venues held back revenue growth. In Mecca Bingo, like-for-like revenue was in-line with the comparable period last year.” Rank also stated that it has changed its accounting reference date for its financial year from December 31 to June 30 in order to comply with new majority shareholder Guoco Group. As a result, unaudited interim results for the six and twelve-month periods to December 31 will now be published no later than February 29 while audited financial statements for the 18-months ending on June 30 are to be made known for October 31. “The board is encouraged by the increasing popularity of the group’s UK brands with operational improvements driving growth in customers across Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo,” read the statement from Rank. “While the outlook for the UK consumer in 2012 seems likely to be more challenging, Rank is in a strong financial position, possesses market-leading brands with multi-channel distribution and has a clear strategy for sustained long-term growth.”
