Sayre spent over two decades as the state gaming agent and division chief for Nevada. The International Master of Gaming Law also decorated him with the honour of Gaming Regulator of the Year in 2009.

Sayre believes the state should act now and capitalize on the numerous economic opportunities available if the measure is passed into law. "We can stand on the beach and let it wash over us, or we can recognize the potential economic opportunity for the state."

PokerStars, which has more than 38 million members across the world, operates under license from the Isle of Man Government. Former Nevada assembly Speaker Richard Perkins, who is also PokerStars' legislative lobbyist, believes that this location is ideal for a company which is aiming to advance its agenda in the United States and around the world.

"I see internet gaming as the next extension of how Nevada reinvents itself. This is the growth vehicle for the gaming industry worldwide."

The AB 258 measure proposed in Nevada, which will be considered by the Assembly Judiciary Committee On March 24, would allow PokerStars to receive a gaming license in the state.

PokerStars currently sponsor more than 100 professional players with 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Jonathan Duhamel and leading all time money winner Daniel Negreanu alongside online prodigies Dusty Schmidt and Randy Lew. The site also creates over US$ 20 billion in revenue on an annual basis and controls a large segment of the online poker market.

Those attributes make the world's biggest online poker site a significant vehicle for promoting gambling legislation in the United States.
