In probing the firm actions in Macau

FBI is also investigating Las Vegas Sands

(US).- The FBI has joined the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the US Justice Department in probing Las Vegas Sands´ actions in Macau. The trio is investigating the company after former CEO Steve Jacobs accused Las Vegas Sands in a court case of using improper leverage against government officials.

S

ands announced earlier this month that it had received a subpoena for documents pertaining to possible violations of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which bars US corporations from bribing foreign officials, from the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the US Justice Department.

Now, Reuters has quoted a source familiar with the probe saying that the FBI has joined in and is exploring the full range of Mr Jacobs’ allegations.

In the same report, Reuters published a series of State Department cables obtained by WikiLeaks quoting US diplomats who show Washington’s concern about the VIP segment in the Macau casino industry and its connection with the mainland’s underground.

In the cables, Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau is accused of barely enforcing its own rules regarding VIP junkets.
