It will have 38 gaming tables, 80 terminals for electronic games, 150 slot machines and a dedicated 150 seat poker room. There will also be two bars, an 80 seater restaurant and a music and comedy venue.

Aspers, a joint venture between the Aspinall family, will operate the casino and Australian based gaming company Crown.

The opening of the complex in the central arcade of the shopping centre will create 440 new jobs.

Newham Council awarded the contract for the “round the clock” Las Vegas style gambling complex.

Newham was the only London borough to be granted a license for a "large" casino in 2007 under the Labour government's deregulation of gambling.

However, public opinion has been against the development, with a 2007 poll suggesting only 17 % backed the idea.

Aspers beat off rival bids from Apollo Resorts, which was hoping to base a facility at Silvertown Quays, and Great Eastern Quays Casino with a proposed venue at Gallions Reach.
