Giselle Brea, Executive Secretary of the Gambling Control Committee in Panama

“Our aim for 2011 is to be able to update all our gaming legislation”

(Panama, exclusive Giselle Brea, executive secretary of the Gambling Control Committee of Panama, remarked Panama as an attractive tourist destination in the games of chance world. According to Brea, the gaming industry of her country faces “very few” problems, because legislation is quite complete.


rom what you could perceive from the institution, Which has been the outlook of the casino industry during 2010?
The outlook perceived by the Gambling Control Committee with regards to the Panamanian industry is what represents a growing industry, becoming in one of the strong sectors of the national economy. Additionally, it represents an added value for tourists that see Panama as a touristic country with a great attraction related to games of chance. Talking about players, betting has increased in a big scale and the perception of casinos is that these are not just gambling venues but also big entertainment centers. 

How are the Panamanian casinos positioned with regards to gaming complexes in other Latin American countries?
Our industry is in permanent growth and modernization, both in infraestructure and in machines, technology, organization and legislation. Panama is catalogued as the third most organized and developed casino industry in Latin America, according to the Council of Regulatory Entities of Games of Luck and Chance of the Region, and every day we work to be the first ones, everything within a frame of regulated, organized and sustainable growth.

What are your expectations for 2011?
Our aim for 2011 is to be able to update all our gaming legislation in a way in which we are all at the forefront in games of chance legislation in the whole industry. Besides, we expect to count with an interconnected system which will enable us a better control on gambling venues.
