Macau government took us$ 31 million in taxes on junket commissions in 2009

(Macau).- The government pocketed us$ 31 million in taxes on commissions paid by casinos to junket promoters last year, Macau Business reports in its December issue. In contrast, casino gross gaming revenue was us$ 14.6 billion.

The us$ 31 million in taxes on junket commissions last year was 4.4 % more than in 2008 – growing at half the rate of casino gross gaming revenue. A final withholding tax of 5 % is levied on commissions paid by gaming operators to junket promoters.

The amount of tax collected last year implies that casino operators paid us$ 614.6 million in commissions.
