Courtney Muller, Group Vice President at Reed Exhibitions

“The move announced for G2E events was driven purely by customer feedback”

(US, exclusive talked to Coutney Muller, Group Vice President at Reed Exhibitions, who commented on the recent decision to move the dates for Las Vegas and Macau trade shows for future editions, and the expectations she has on next November’s G2E. She also talked about the importance of new iGaming Congress and analyzed the current situation of Internet gaming market in US.

hy did AGA and Reed Exhibitions decide to move the dates of next year's Las Vegas and Macau show editions?
The move was driven purely by customer feedback. We had been hearing for a few years that our show dates were too late in the year and too close to the Europe show. We had not been able to get new dates at the Convention Center when we asked in the past and they still didn’t have them.  So, we went out to the other properties in Vegas and Sands had the perfect date pattern for us.  An added benefit of the move is the opportunity to re-draw the floorplan, which we are doing right now!

Which are the advantages of organizing the show at The Sands Expo and Convention Center? Which are its main characteristics?
All of the convention facilities in Las Vegas are very nice and could work well for our event.  The advantages of the Sands include the strip location, the number of meeting rooms and the ability for our customers to be able to stay in the same property as the event.  Also, its nice to have a gaming show at a location that also houses a casino!

It was recently announced a new iGaming Congress for G2E 2010. How important will be this event in the structure of the show? Will the igaming industry be gathered in an specific exhibiting area also?
G2E works hard to stay ahead of the curve and evolve every year. There is a lot of discussion and activity in the U.S. around the prospect of some form of legal I-gaming in the U.S.  The industry is interested and waiting and wants to know more – so we felt it was important to offer the very best education we could in this area.

How do you analyze the current and near future situation of igaming market in the US?
Potentially it’s a huge market and could be exciting for the industry. My opinion is that something could happen in the very near future or it could take a long time. But with legislative issues like this you never know which direction it could take.

As we are getting closer to this year's Las Vegas show, which are your expectations and what can you anticipate regarding its main features?
This is our 10th anniversary so we are very excited about the event! Our welcome reception will be held at the Venetian, giving our audience a sneak peak at the property for 2011!  The conference is offering great new content including I-Gaming Congress, Generational Marketing (part of the Advanced Gaming Institute) as well as the return of G2E’s Leadership Academy and Security & Surveillance Institute. Our opening keynote address will be by Geoff Colvin of Fortune magazine and our second day keynote will feature gaming legends including Chuck Mathewson and Burton Cohen.  And of course, the best part of the show will once again be the show floor teaming with new products from suppliers around the globe.  This is a year that really shouldn’t be missed.

On the oher hand, our conference is themed this year “The New Casino: Operating at Maximum Efficiency for Today’s World”. Also, Gary Loveman of Harrah’s will be our Conference Keynote.
