Statements by Vangelis Apostolakopoulos, General Manager of Intralot in the country

“Last year, Intralot sales in Peru grew a 55%. We expect to increase a 30% in 2010”

(Peru).- Vangelis Apostolakopoulos, General Manager of Intralot in the country, talked about the lottery market situation in Peru, which has a lower per capita consumption compared to other Latin American countries, and which are the expectations of the company.


ow do you see the Peruvian lottery market in the country?
Intralot entered in Peru in 2003 because it realized that it is a market with much potential, based in its positive economic development. At that moment, it already existed la Tinka in the country, so we think we could expand this success to other products. With that aim, we have brought new games such as Ganagol, together with the innovation of being able to play by Internet and text messages.

How has Intralot growth been in Peru in recent years?
We have grown a lot. There was a growth of more than 50% in the country in the last two years. It is very remarkable.

What is this growth based on?
The games are closer to people. Besides, we have shown that there are real winners and, since May 2009, we have been performing conferences to show people that there are winners and that jackpots are real.

Which is your market share in the Peruvian lotteries?
The Peruvian lottery market is estimated in around us$ 52,155,800, of which Intralot has more than  95% of its share.

How much have sales grown in 2009 and what are your expectations for the current year?
Last year, Intralot sales in Peru grew a 55% and this year we expect to increase our sales a 30%. We have been increasing our points of sale because every day we attract more customers, and our lotteries are at the disposition of all Peruvians.

How is the per capita consumption in the Peruvian market?
It does not go well. The Peruvian market has a lower per capita consumption compared to other Latin American countries, because it just reaches us$ 1.5 per person while in Ecuador is us$ 13. This explains why in Peru there is a very strong trend for slots, which has a different dynamics. Intralot wants to promote lottery games as a way to have fun and win money at the same time. Last year, Intralot has achieved total sales close to us$ 1.5 billion, so it is the second largest group in the lottery business worldwide.  
In Peru, Intralot de Perú administrates la Tinka, Gana Diario, Ganagol, Kábala, Rapitinkas, Raspigana, Súper 3 and Reventón. Of the total sales of Intralot worldwide, Peru participates with a 5%. Lottery games that are most sold in the country are Tinka and Ganagol.
