(US).- The gambling authority in the western state of Nevada has involved itself in the debate over online gambling in the United States, telling Las Vegas casinos not to launch online casinos until it is legalized under state or federal law.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) issued the warning following rumors that many Las Vegas Casinos have already struck agreements with online casino operators to ensure they are ready if and when the US Congress does allow industry regulation.

Harrah's Entertainment, one of the giants of the Las Vegas casino industry, are one such company positioning itself for the legalization of online gambling, having already established an online branch and launched its own online casino, named Caesars Palace online.

That online casino, which uses Caesars Entertainment's famous black and gold colors, does not currently accept players located in the United States. It has also been reported on gambling news sites that 888 is working with Harrah's to provide software for its online casino.

Meanwhile, the NGBC announced this week that casinos in the state had won us$ 8.10 million in April, 5.7 % down on the same month the previous year. Tax collections based on those winnings were us$ 39.7 million in May, a 23.4 % drop from May 2009.
