Paraguay: Conajzar plans to modify the games of chance law

(Paraguay).- Patricia Marchewka, head of the National Games of Chance Commission (Conajzar), commented that they are working in the modification of the Law 1.016/97 which regulates games of chance with the aim to update it.

The request of modifications of the law will be sent to the Congress shortly, this year.

Nowadays, there is an exclusive cannon for the casinos because, since the change of administration in 2009, a standardization procedure system of procedure, requirements and cannon was established.

With regards to the little interest after the call to the casino tender, although many companues bought the documents, Marchewka commented: “There were claims on the sum of the royalty; with regards to the strict compliance of the games that were to be operated in the casino; on the type of control that Conajzar had put in the document for the machines; on the reports demanded with refards to dayly and monthly movements of the games”.

“Another point was the operation for just five years, it means, the interest of the private sector that it is an operation deadline of more than five years in order to justify a larger investment,” added, and remarked that the reform of this article is planned.

When asked if illegal games are another point of concern, she answered: “Conajzar has a limited structure. Nowadays, Conajzar it is doing much more than what it can do. Our budget is of us$ 39,215.69 for 2010”.
