Obama has been criticized in recent weeks after mentioning Las Vegas in a speech about fiscal responsibility. The line “you don’t blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you’re trying to save for college” was met with bi-partisan backlash across Nevada.
In a FOX News interview, Governor Jim Gibbons even demanded Obama shoot a commercial touting the merits of Las Vegas.
That’s not part of his visit; instead the president is expected to hold events with Senator. Harry Reid to address the economic challenges facing the state and the country. He’ll arrive in Las Vegas from Colorado and head back to Washington after his visit.
Obama will have a couple of events next Friday as he showcases the work he and Reid are doing together to address the economic challenges facing Nevada. The trip is not expected to include a fundraiser specifically for Reid.
The president is expected to arrive Thursday and stay overnight in Las Vegas prior to the Friday events.
Obama last visited Las Vegas in May 2009, where he attended a fundraiser for Reid at Caesars Palace and toured a solar energy facility at Nellis Air Force Base.
