he Minister of Foreign Commerce and Tourism, Martín Pérez, said that last year it registered a record figure of us$ 56,094,700 in the collection of these taxes, and that is due to the aplicación of the Law of organization and formalization of the activity of casino operation and slots.
“This law was approved in the Congress after a heated debate and that has allowed us to improve considerably the collection, that several years ago, was of us$ 687.332 and last year was of us$ 56,094,700,” he declared.
Pérez indicated that the law has allowed that the 97 % of the centers dedicated to the operation of casinos and slots at a national level are already legal, which represents 650 centers of this type at a national level. There is another group of centers that are administrating its formalization and we believe that there will be 680 formal venues during the year, he added.
However, he reminded that Mincetur published a supreme decree that regulates the implementation of the Unified Control System in Real Time (SUCTR) in the gambling venues and whose information will be used by the National Superintendence of Tax Administration (Sunat) to control the tax payment.
“This online control system will be implemented in July and will permit the tax collection of casinos and slots to increase a us$ 103,242,000, for 2011”, he added.
In this sense, he mentioned that the increment of the tax collection will be connected to the increment of the formalization of the sector, which will be inmportant for the incomes of the state. “With the online system, it will be hard to evade the tax payment,” the Minister pointed.
He also reported that, between 2006 and 2009, 6,253 illegal slots have been seized, of which 2,690 have been confiscated last year.
