Gaming in Macau grosses us$ 15 billion in 2009

(Macau).- Gaming and gambling activities in Macau posted gross revenues of us$ 15 billion in the 2009, which was year on year growth of 9.6 %, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (GICB) said.

Of the total gross revenue, gambling contributed 99.15 % or us$ 14.6 billion and the remainder was generated by greyhound and horse racing, Chinese and instant lotteries and football and basketball bets.

In Macau’s casinos, VIP baccarat provided revenues of us$ 9.8 billion or 66.88 % of all gambling revenues, with both varieties of baccarat – VIP baccarat and baccarat – providing revenues of us$ 12.9 billion, or 88.24 % of the total.

At the end of the year there were 4770 gaming tables in Macau's casinos and 14,363 slot machines in the territory’s 33 casinos, 20 of which belonging to Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, which, under the name Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau, previously had a monopoly on gaming and gambling in the territory.
