A Senate source said that the two sides are to resolve the contentious issue

Pennsylvania lawmakers set sights on passing table games bill

(US).- State House and Senate leaders are optimistic that a bill to authorize table games at Pennsylvania casinos will be approved this week, before Governor Rendell’s deadline to begin the layoffs of at least one thousand state workers.

A

fter a conference call among legislative leaders on Monday, Erik Arneson – spokesman for the Republican leader of the GOP-controlled Senate – stopped just short of saying there was a deal for table games legislation: “We are not saying at this point that there’s a deal, although we believe we’re on the verge of a final agreement.”

And Todd Eachus, majority leader of the Democrat-controlled House, warns that he must first present the agreement to his members: “We never have a deal in the Democratic caucus until our caucus says so...”But Eachus says a bill could be on the governor’s desk by Wednesday or Thursday.

Eachus did not want to discuss details, but a Senate source says the two sides have resolved the contentious issue of whether to create a third license for a smaller resort casino by agreeing that it won’t be available until 2017.
