Spanish organization ONCE claims to regulate online gambling

(Spain).- Recently uncovered match-fixing in European football rekindles debate in Spain about european online gaming regulation. And multiplies the significance of a sentence of the European Court of Justice issued last September 8th, in the case of Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional, bwin International, formerly Baw International Ltd, v Departamento de Jogos da Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.

n the mentioned case, the Court said that "the possibility cannot be ruled out that an operator which sponsors some of the sporting competitions on which it accepts bets and some of the teams taking part in those competitions may be in a position to influence their outcome directly or indirectly, and thus increase its profits".

According to Cesar Palacios, Game Director General of ONCE (Spanish National Blind Organization) it's a nosense due to the absence of gaming regulation. He remembered that Germany does not allow the t-shirt advertising in the football league. 

ONCE claims a state regulation on Internet gambling. They agree with the Portuguese governement who prohibit online betting houses like Bwin to operate in the country. The judges explained that, taking into account the particularities of Internet gambling, these kinds of laws as the portuguese are justified to protect against the risks of fraud and crime. Bwin, resident in Gibraltar, sponsors Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich.
