2009 La Vuelta a España cycling race

William Hill to sponsor major Spanish cycling event

(Spain).- In a landmark deal providing strong brand visibility across multiple TV networks in Europe, UK bookmaker William Hill has been unveiled as the official sponsor of the 2009 La Vuelta a España cycling race, one of the three Grand Tours of Europe which also includes the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia.

art of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) World Ranking calendar, La Vuelta is a long road bicycle racing stage race covering 3,266 km. Commencing in Assen, Holland on August 20th, the 64th La Vuelta tour concludes in Madrid three weeks later on September 20th.

"This is a tremendous honour for WilliamHill.com. We understand and respect the history of La Vuelta and more particularly the passion that it ignites within the cycling community," said Ricardo Carioni, Spanish Territory Manager for WilliamHill.com.

"The coverage of La Vuelta is far reaching and provides for strong brand visibility across multiple TV networks right across Europe for three solid weeks. William Hill is a company with more than 75 years of history as the leading betting company within the UK, but the online business has only evolved in recent years and to be associated with La Vuelta is of tremendous pride to us."

Under the agreement, WilliamHill.com will have the title rights to the prestigious ‘Green Jersey’ for leading sprint rider. Last year's tour was won by Spain's Alberto Contador (Astaná), winner of the 2009 Tour de France last month.
