n a letter to MPs on Tuesday, the minister says he wants to experiment with allowing venues other than the state-owned Holland Casino. At present Holland Casino has a monopoly on the poker market.
Under the new scheme, Holland Casino could, for example, set up a poker table within other existing gambling halls, says the Telegraaf. According to research around 575,000 people, mainly men aged between 15 and 34, play poker illegally, either on the internet or elsewhere.
This could be because there is no Holland Casino in their region (there are 14 throughout the country) or because they prefer smaller venues such as cafes. Holland Casino will work with the justice ministry on setting up local poker facilities on an experimental basis.
