Company's operational benefits increased 17%

Cirsa's 2008 revenues reach 1.7 billion euros

(Spain).- Spanish gaming group Cirsa has registered an operational benefit (EBITDA) of 193 million euros, which means a 17.2% increment with regards to the previous year. The company had an income of 1.7 billion euros during 2008, with an increment of 1.2% with regards to the previous exercise.


The compliance of the operational plans has allowed to reach those results, that reflect a sustained growth during the last 12 quarters, exceeding the market expectations," according to a press release from Cirsa.

Casino incomes increased a 10% as a consequence of the effect of the sum of the optimization of the machines and table games in existing venues, as well as the growth experimented in Argentina, Venezuela, Ecuador, Dominican Republic and specially  Panama.

Cirsa has consolidated its position in 2008 in the slots segment, with a record market skare in Spain, of 53%, with 39,609 machines sold in the hostelling channel, of which 23,500 were of "La Perla del Caribe", the star product of the year.

The interconnection of casino machines and venues, the development of their own technology in systems that allow to play without coins (ticket game) and the improvement of the efficiency of the processes, explain the 25% increment in collection for this division.

The improvements in the daily collection in the national market and the increment of their own machines in the Italian market, where they have reached 6,800 machines, have allowed that the total income of the division increased an 8%.

In Spain, it is important the opening of 20 new gambling venues, reaching the number of 122 by the end of 2008; as well as a considerable improvement of the offer, expanded with the incorporation of electronic bingo machines and roulettes.

As announced last May, Sportium started its sportsbook activity in Madrid Council, reaching at the end of the year, a total of 55 points of sale and achieving a volume of 85,000 bets and 12 million euros in prizes.
