(Mexico).- ELA 2009 organizers pointed yesterday that, due to the situation created in Mexico for the swine flu epidemic that started in the country, today they will take a definite decision on the performance of the show. Among the options available, a change of dates would be the most probable, postponing the Mexican event for next July.

According to the press release issued yesterday by ELA, the development of the disease has been communicated to the public opinion last Friday, April 24th. "During the week-end, the information started focusing towards the increment of cases detected and the closure of schools, universities, theatres, museums and an important number of casinos," pointed the organizers. Due to the fact that yesterday they received many queries from numerous exhibitors of ELA 2009, they issued a press release.

"According to our information, Mexican authorities are taking the necessary measures to prevent the transmission of the disease, but they have not communicated an official position on the matter."

When analyzing the future of the event, heads of EXPOAZAR S.A. expressed their total support to the Mexican authorities and the Mexican people in this difficult moment and pointed that there are just three possible options. The first one would be the decision to suspend the event totally, an option that has been totally discarded due to the non-binding recommendation made by APJSAC and the statements of exhibitors that have communicated with organizers by phone.

The idea to maintain the dates of ELA 2009 for next May 14-15 would be the second alternative, but it would depend a 100% on the evolution of the swine flu. "The negative aspect of this decision is to keep uncertainty to our exhibitors in the following days, so they would not know what to do with the goods sent as well as with those that are pending. Besides, there is a high chance that the exhibition has very few visitors," they assured.

Finally, the possibility to change ELA dates and celebrates it in two-months' time, at the end of July, once it is supposed that this problem will be solved, would no doubt be the strongest hypothesis considered. "It is evident that the final decision must be taken at least today (Tuesday, 28th), to benefit our exhibitors. The aim of Expoazar is to choose this third option," they pointed.
