Las Vegas jury finds MEI infringes on JCM global patent

(US).- A Las Vegas jury has validated JCM Global’s claim of patent infringement by MEI’s CashFlow SC Series. The subject of JCM’s infringement claim surrounded JCM’s innovative, removable stacker mechanism, detailed in US Patent number 5,372,361, and the jury found MEI infringed in four separate claims.

dditionally, the jury awarded JCM in excess of us$ 11.4 million in damages. As a result of the decision, JCM anticipates the court will impose an injunction against sales of MEI products that deploy the design found to infringe in the Nevada litigation.

In a separate case, the District Court in New Jersey has dismissed a suit filed by Mars/MEI against JCM claiming patent infringement; due to the Court’s findings that Mars, Inc. did not have standing to sue at the time of the filing of the complaint. The District Court judge awarded JCM a portion of all legal fees and expenses incurred in preparation of its defense.

“JCM’s best-in-class bill validator design and engineering efforts have been vindicated. Our patented, innovative design that gives service technicians quick service access to critical components has been a tremendous benefit to our customers, and we are thrilled that the jury has upheld our exclusivity for this design,” said JCM Global President/CEO Akiyoshi Isoi. “We knew we were on the right side of the law, our customers knew we were on the right side of the law, and now our claims have been validated in two separate US courts. We are very pleased with these decisions.”

The two legal victories come on the heels of tremendous sales successes for JCM, where the company was awarded the exclusive bill validator provider contract for all four major Las Vegas casino openings and expansions in 2008, the latest being the grand opening of Encore Wynn Las Vegas in December 2008.
