The full ban is scheduled to take effect 18 months after a partial prohibition

Atlantic City panel weighs delay of smoking ban at its casinos

(US).- In a meeting held this week, City Council considered a delay on the full casino smoking ban slated to take effect October 15.

T

he delay request comes from casino executives in the wake of a sinking economy, competition in Pennsylvania and New York and plunging casino revenues.

The full ban is scheduled to take effect 18 months after a partial prohibition limited smoking to 25 % of the casino floor.

Gaming executives argue that even the partial ban contributed to a revenue slump last year and this year. The executives say that extending the no smoking signs will make a bad situation even worse, costing millions of dollars in lost revenue and untold jobs.
