Legislation could be ready by second the half of the current year

Poland to license online gambling

(Poland).- According to numerous media reports this week, Poland looks set to be preparing a framework for the regulation of both online gaming and betting that could be up and running by the second half of 2008.

M

arek Kapica, Deputy Minister of Finance, stated that the nation is prepared to legalize online gambling before providing suitable legislative changes that it would then send “to the European Commission within the required notification procedure”.

“We cannot control this process anyway and it is better that the budget at least derives some revenues from it,” added Kapica.

Polish press sources have reported extensively on the government's attempts at possibly emulating Italian regulations on online gambling following the favorable ruling in the Placanica case by the European Court of Justice in March of last year.
