Due to a fight for the worldwide box championship in the city

Mexico: Casino operation demanded in Cancun for a month

(Mexico).- Mexican promoter Pepe Gómez, who has just associated to the box promoter Don King to organize a fight for the worldwide championship next March in Cancun, said that he will ask authorities “to allow the installation of casinos such as in Las Vegas or Montecarlo for thirty days, due to the box match”.

G

ómez said that the demand was presented before the Games and Draws Office, which will have to put it into the consideration of the Department of Interior.

The young businessman pointed that, although in Mexico casinos are not allowed, a special permit could be obtained for a month, in order to attract tourists. These 30 days would cover some days before and some days after the match.

"We will not lose money", assured Gómez, who is supported by Governor Félix González Canto, José Sulaimán, Don King as well as a group of enthusiastic businessmen who believe in this plan.

Gómez said that five hotels will be venue of the show, which will be held in the bull square, for 7 thousand people. Tickets will be US$ 2,000 to 10,000 and the program will be broadcast by open TV. Travel agencies are also preparing special trips and tickets will be sold through Ticket Master.

"It is unbelievable that just Cuba and Mexico cannot have casinos in America. Those who think that this would lead to an increment of crime do not consider that it could be performed in a safe way. Las Vegas, the worldwide gambling Mecca, is one of the most secure cities of US and worldwide, too, and countries with casinos obtain big dividends”, he remarked. Gómez said that Belice has casinos and crime has not increased there.

The schedule will include the following box matches: José Luis Castillo-Timothy Bradley, Ana María Torres-Marilyn Hernández; Jameel McLine-John Ruiz and Juan Diaz-Nate Campbell. Finally, the key event of the night will be the worldwide championship match between African champion Samuel Peter and Russian Oleg Maskaev.
