Astro landed certification for its Blackbeard AWP (amusement with prize) gaming machines in Spain and certification for video slot machines from Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) in November, stated Yang, indicating that GLI has been helping the company tap many markets around the world.

For the time being, Astro is negotiating Blackbeard AWP orders in Spain and is in the process of AWP certification in Italy, Yang noted. Shipments to Spain may begin in the first quarter of 2008 and the certification in Italy may also be obtained at that time, Yang indicated.

In Japan, Astro has placed 400 video slot machines for trial use and the market response has been satisfactory, Yang pointed out. There will be demand for an estimated 5,000-6,000 new video slot machines in Japan next year and Astro stands a chance of grabbing orders for 1,500-2,000 units, Yang quoted Astro’s Japanese clients as saying.
