Swedish monopoly announces us$ 217 million profit

(Sweden).- Sweden’;s Svenska Spel made a third quarter profit of nearly us$ 217 million, a rise of us$ 14 million against the same period last year. The state-owned gaming monopoly said that overall profits for the first three quarters were up 19 % on 2006, to over us$ 620 million.

Gamers choose our secure poker platform over others, which is pleasing," CEO Jesper Kärrbrink said in a statement. He added: "The positive pattern is continuing and we expect a record dividend for sports this year."

Kärrbrink went on to say that all business areas had developed well, with Internet bingo rising 32 per cent during the first nine months and the company’s casino operations up 15 per cent. In the third quarter casino takings rose by us$ 6.8 million.

Svenska Spel currently controls 35 per cent of the Swedish market.
