utchison, who is a well-known figure in the lottery industry and TV game show world, has been credited with instigating and launching lotteries across the United States, as well as in the UK and South Africa.
In fact, as head of GSI, Hutchison has been involved in launching lotteries on most continents of the world. Most recently he has been working in the Caribbean lottery market, and has also introduced an innovative systems solution to traditional lottery operators that enables them to sell tickets via networked gaming machines and Video Lottery Terminals (VLT's).
For 25 years he has been deeply involved in most segments of the lottery industry, including US State and international operations, and has also worked alongside instant ticket lottery suppliers, online suppliers and video lottery suppliers.
His involvement with the lottery industry began in the 1980s where he joined the then new industry with the Colorado State Lottery under industry guru Owen Hickey. He then went on to become Director of Sales and Marketing for the Kansas State Lottery and then the Wisconsin State Lottery in the United States.
In 1992 he launched Gaming Solutions International and was directly involved and credited with beginning the process and opening some of the world's newest and largest lottery markets where no true national lottery existed before. GSI and Hutchinson have provided start-up services and ongoing direction and marketing support to lottery operations and suppliers in over 15 countries.
Hutchinson achieved one of his greatest personal successes when seconded to the post of CEO of Games Africa (Pty) Ltd. who launched and marketed modern day lottery products in South Africa.
The company was listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and also developed two weekly lottery-related TV game shows that remained in the top 10 on South African TV for over five years. Most satisfying of all, according to Hutchison, was that Games Africa, in its first year of operation, contributed what was then said to be the largest single cash sum to charity in Africa, at a time that was one of the most important, in the country's history.
Commenting on the acquisition, Octavian COO Hans Zeidler said “Lotteries is an extremely important and growing market for Octavian, and we have already invested in developing our own Symphony LE (Lottery Edition) downloadable games and management system for electronic instant lottery tickets. This is a significant acquisition for us because it opens up major growth and revenue opportunities.”
Hutchison added: “I am delighted to be joining forces with Octavian because as a developer of lottery system and management systems, and as a specialist in VLTs, games and downloadable technologies, their expertise is an extremely good fit with GSI's lottery consulting skills”.
”For many years the electronic gaming machine suppliers and traditional lottery operators have operated in separate markets and as they finally begin to merge GSI assists with expertise and a deep understanding of both. Octavian's fast-growing global sales and support structure is well matched to the next phase of lottery developments planned by GSI, details of which we hope to announce in the very near future, he added.
