PartyGaming in talks with US Justice Department

(US).- British online gambling firm PartyGaming today it was in talks with the US Department of Justice about how it operated in United States before online gambling became illegal in October 2006.

The US made it illegal to gamble online as part of a bill designed to increase port security. About half of the customers of the us$ 12 billion industry are based in the US, but companies such as Sportingbet PLC and Leisure & Gaming have been forced to quit the region.

"Against this background, the company initiated discussions with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and is in the process of voluntarily responding to a request for information issued by that office," the company said in a statement.

PartyGaming shares were unchanged at us$ 82.30 on the London Stock Exchange.
