SBC Summit’s final Global Markets Stage track to address US and Canada’s $23.44B betting sector

SBC Summit 2025 will conclude its Global Markets Stage with a session examining the North American sports betting and iGaming sector, a market valued at $23.44 billion across the US and Canada.

The event takes place on Thursday, September 18, at the Feira Internacional de Lisboa in Lisbon, Portugal. The Global Markets: North America track will close three days of discussions that also cover Latin America & Brazil and Western Europe. 

AS part of the track, speakers from the operator, regulator, affiliate, and supplier segments will review the growth of alternative betting formats in the US and Canadian markets, including sweepstakes casinos, daily fantasy sports, and peer-to-peer betting.

Alternative formats under discussion

Organizers said these models have enabled some new companies to establish market share, while also drawing increased regulatory attention. Panellists are expected to debate whether these products offer sustainable opportunities or are likely to face new restrictions.

“North America may be a maturing market, but it remains one of the most commercially important regions for sports betting and iGaming,” said Rasmus Sojmark, founder and CEO of SBC. “With regulatory progress slowing in key states, new market entrants are turning to alternative betting models to maintain momentum and explore fresh opportunities.”

“Attendees at our North America track will leave with a clear view of which of these formats are working, what’s driving their growth, and the regulatory challenges alternative models must navigate if they are to have a lasting impact in this region,” Sojmark added.

Panel lineup and topics

The track will open with “US Leaders Panel: Sweeping the States – The Rise of Alternative Betting,” featuring Jared Beber (CEO, Bet99), Paul Burns (CEO, Canadian Gaming Association), Brett Calapp (Co-Founder, RareMint), Paris Smith (CEO, DefyTheOdds), Dinos Stranomitis (COO, Altenar) and Alexandre Tomic (CEO, Alea). Moderated by Jessica Welman (Editor, SBC Americas), the session will address whether the expansion of alternative models can be sustained as the pace of online gambling legalization slows in US states.

“Sweepstakes Boom – Sustainable Growth or Short-Lived Trend?” will follow, with Yoel Chapman (CPO, Soft2Bet), Marcello De Crescenzo (Senior Account Executive, Optimove), Brian Goodman (CEO, Golden Matrix Group), Karolina Moscicka (COO, BugsyEmpire), and Dmitry Starostenkov (CEO, EvenBet). The panel will review the role of sweepstakes and live casinos in the market and how responsible frameworks could influence their future.

The session “The Social Side of Betting – Peer-to-Peer, Gamification & Community” will examine whether peer-to-peer wagering platforms can change player engagement. Hebert L Luiz T Crespin Gaban (CMO, Aposta Ganha), Horst Maberly (Head of Gaming Investments, Lance East Office), Monica Rangel (VP Marketing & Strategy, A5 Labs), Marion Ryan (Managing Director, Tombola), and Josh Turk (Chief Strategy Officer, North America, Low6) will discuss community-driven models, growth drivers, and regulatory considerations.

The program will close with “Tribal Gaming: Blurred Lines or Commercial Collaboration?,” where Tony Amormino (CEO, Apache Nugget Corporation), Robert Davidman (CEO, World Golf Series), Will Griffiths (Founder, Investor & Tribal Partner, Level Media), and Jamie Hummingbird (Chairman, NTGCR – National Tribal Gaming Commissioners & Regulators) will assess the effect of alternative betting models on tribal gaming enterprises and potential commercial relationships.
