AGEM Index monthly increase driven by Aristocrat's stock price

The AGEM Index's April 2019 growth was driven by an 11.7 percent increase in the stock price of Aristocrat Leisure Limited. Konami Corp. experienced a 1.2 percent stock price gain.

Despite a 1.4 percent gain from April 2019, most AGEM Index companies reported decreases in stock price during the month, with five trending positively and eight moving negatively.

The AGEM Index increased in May 2019 by 6.65 points to 483.00 points, a 1.4 percent gain from April 2019. The year-over-year figures were down by 12.8 percent. The AGEM Index's April 2019 growth was driven by an 11.7 percent increase in the stock price of Aristocrat Leisure Limited, which rose from AUD 26.08 to AUD 29.12. The stock was responsible for 19.81 points of the AGEM Index's monthly growth. Konami Corp. experienced a 1.2 percent stock price gain from ¥5,060 to ¥5,120, which led to a contribution of 4.07 points.

Overall, most AGEM Index companies reported decreases in stock price during the month, with five trending positively and eight moving negatively. Gaming Partners International Corp. was delisted from the NASDAQ stock exchange in May 2019 due to a take-private acquisition by a strategic buyer.

The AGEM Index outperformed the major stock indices as the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 experienced monthly drops of 6.7 percent and 6.6 percent, respectively, while the NASDAQ was down 7.9 percent.

The Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) produces the monthly AGEM Index that comprises 14 global gaming suppliers throughout the world. A total of ten suppliers are based in the United States and are listed on the NYSE, Nasdaq or OTC market, while two trade on the Australian exchange, one on the Tokyo exchange, and another trades on the Taiwan OTC exchange.

The index is computed based on the month-end stock price of each company and weighted based on approximation of market capitalization. Market capitalizations for manufacturers trading on foreign exchanges have been converted to US dollar-equivalents as of month-end for comparability purposes. The AGEM Index is based on a 100-point value as of January 2005.
