The CEO of Vietnam’s US-style lottery operator has resigned, the Ministry of Finance revealed last week.

Tong Quoc Truong, CEO of Vietnam Lottery Co. Ltd. (Vietlott), resigned on October 1 due to personal reasons. The ministry has selected deputy Nguyen Thanh Dam to replace him until a new CEO can be found.

Truong had been Vietlott's CEO since 2012, the year the company was founded.

Last year, Vietlott clinched a 18-year deal with Malaysian conglomerate Berjaya to launch computerized lottery games. The firm has gained popularity in Vietnam with its American-style lottery Mega 6/45, as well as products such as Max 4D and Power 6/55.

During the first half of 2017, Vietlott posted a total profit of nearly VND133 billion ($5.85 million).

Prior to his time with Vietlott, Truong served as chief investment officer of state-owned fuel giant PetroVietnam.
